I’m Lyn, the footsteps behind Hike Dreams, and your guide through the winding paths and scenic trails of day hiking. My journey on foot has spanned four fabulous decades, taking me through Australia’s rugged outback, across the maple-filled landscapes of Canada, the romantic terrains of France, the majestic Swiss Alps, and the diverse Italian topography as a proud member of Club Alpino Italiano.
Now, my focus is on the easily accessible joy of day hikes (or bush walks as us Aussies say) – finding adventure and beauty closer to home, especially in and around my vibrant city, Sydney. Despite a full-time job, you’ll still find me hitting the trails almost every week without fail.
I’m also part of an amazing hiking club where we, a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts, come together to share our collective passion for the wilderness. For me, it’s more than just a hobby – it’s a powerful stress reliever and a means to a joyful existence. Being in nature washes away the city’s clamor, settling my mind and replenishing my spirit, it’s my meditation.
Hiking isn’t just a solitary quest for me; I’m also part of a vibrant hiking club. Together with kindred spirits, I explore trails, share routes, and support beginners’ strides in this invigorating hobby. The camaraderie is indispensable; the shared experience and stories with diverse but united walkers, as we bond over every ascent and descent is rejuvenating as the hike itself. Join me in embracing the harmony of the outdoors, where every step is a step toward peace and fulfillment.
The Hiker’s Lifestyle: Balancing Work, Wanderlust, and Well-being
I like to keep my hiking boots and business shoes walking in sync. I have a full plate with a full-time job, but I make sure to thread in a weekly hike. It’s a non-negotiable for me; you can call it my version of a board meeting, with nature as the CEO.
But why do I lace up my hiking boots so religiously? Beyond the physical health perks, slipping away into the greenery is my reset button. The usual clamor of city life fades, and the serene whispers of the wilderness restore me. It’s about more than the view at the summit; it’s the clarity and peace gained with every step.
Day hiking, to me, is the perfect convergence point of exercise, mindfulness, and socializing. It’s where I can push myself physically, reflect personally, and connect socially—all within the span of a few trail miles. It’s the ‘all-inclusive package’ for a well-balanced life.
Sharing the Trail: My Mission to Empower New Hikers
I really hope that you’ve found the insights from my own journeys both inspiring and informative. My main ambition with Hike Dreams is to become your trusted guide in the world of day hiking, especially if you’re just starting out or looking to deepen your hiking experiences.
I’ve gathered a wealth of practical advice on selecting the right gear, which can often be daunting for beginners. But don’t worry too much about getting everything perfect from the get-go. Your first set of gear doesn’t need to be your last; you can always adjust your approach down the road.
Training for your hikes is also key, and I’ll share tried-and-tested tips to help you build your endurance and enjoy those trails to the fullest. Hiking is not just about the physical journey; it’s about the pleasure you take from each step you make in nature.
Choose something that resonates with you—whether that’s the tranquility of solo hikes or the camaraderie of hiking with friends. Hiking is a complete activity, and at Hike Dreams, you’ll find everything you need to make the most of it.
So my question to you today is, are you ready to lace up your boots and discover the wonders that day hiking has to offer? I’m here to help you every step of the way. And remember, the trail is not just about the destination; it’s also about the remarkable moments and memories you create along the journey.

Hi Lyn,
Your passion comes through so very strong, and you certainly have applied it in many countries, I am a little jealous of that. But sadly too old now to walk very far let alone hike, surgery has played it negative card.
I used to hike a lot, as a youngster I told my mum I was going for a long walk, backpack on and all my kit, returning 3 days later, having walked the country route to the next major town and back, was she mad at me when I got back. I also remember coming down mout Pilatus in Switzerland, most of the up part was by train. I think.! My longest hike and hitch, was the Uk to the south of France, what a journey that was, the point is it really is suited for the fit and healthy, but the memories it has created for me in my life are still so vivid. Watch out for AI.
It sounds like you’ve got a deep passion for hiking that’s truly inspiring! Your journey through diverse landscapes across the world and commitment to making time for day hikes despite a busy work schedule really shines through. I especially resonate with how you describe hiking as more than just a physical activity – it’s a way to reset, find clarity, and balance life.
Thanks for sharing your journey and insights, Lyn! It’s motivating and feels like a friendly nudge to get out there and experience the joys of day hiking. I’m definitely inspired to lace up my boots and hit the trails!
